German Open Championships 2019

As 3rd August week went by – another German Open Championships came to an end. During 5 intensive days couples could participate in 45 categories starting from Ballroom dancing Juveniles I and Seniors IV ending with Team Match and Boogie Woogie competitions.

GOC is one of the biggest WDSF Competition and to win is as much important as winning World Championships because everyone can participate in this competition which means there are more opponents to beat.

For sure the biggest highlights of the GOC 2019 were the PD Professional Super Grand Prix Standard and Latin as well as the WDSF Grand Slam Standard and Latin.

In the PD Professional Super GP we could see a new couple, World Champions straight from Amateurs, Dmitry Zharkov and Olga Kulikova from Russia who were clearly 1st at that competition. Sadly the actual PD Standard World Champions Bjorn Bitch and Ashlii Williamson from Denmark didn’t participate in that competition.

1 Dmitry Zharkov & Olga Kulikova, RUSSIA

3 Andrey Motyl & Ekaterina Kim, RUSSIA

2 Nikolay Darin & Natalia Seredina, MOLDOVA

4 Alessandro Ilarioni & Aurora Sbardella, ITALY

5 Peng Zhao & Qi Wang, P.R. CHINA

6 Eros Sciamanna & Anna Angelika Jaglinska, POLAND

In PD Professional Super GP Latin were no surprises. The winners are 5 times World Champions (in Amateur and PD) Gabriele and Anna from Moldova.

1 Gabriele Goffredo & Anna Matus, MOLDOVA

2 Marts Smolko & Tina Bazykina, LATVIA

3 Vincenzo Mariniello & Sara Casini, ITALY

4 Jun Wang & Yiwen Jia, P.R. CHINA

5 Alexandr Shmonin & Maria Shmonina, RUSSIA

6 Mario Cecinati & Rosaria Messina Denaro,ITALY

This year WDSF GS Standard was full of emotions. 1st place went clearly to Lithuania – Evaldas and Ieva. They were also crowds favourite and got standing ovations. 2nd place went to Italy – Francesco and Debora. The big fight was for 3rd place and bronze medal between actual Russian Champions and Vice Champions. Until the last dance we weren’t sure who was gonna end up on that podium. The fight ended after Quickstep and Russian Champions after getting more points got the 3rd place.

1 Evaldas Sodeika & Ieva Zukauskaite, LITHUANIA

Francesco Galuppo & Debora Pacini, ITALY

3 Evgeny Moshenin & Dana Spitsyna, RUSSIA

4 Alexey Glukhov & Anastasia Glazunova, RUSSIA

6 Evgeny Nikitin & Anastasia Miliutina, RUSSIA

5 Vaidotas Lacitis & Veronika Golodneva, LITHUANIA

WDSD GS Latin went on Saturday, last day of GOC and was surely the most exciting competition. As always we could see great performances, new images and innovative choreographies from the top couples. The biggest battle was, as always at GOC, between two German couples. What’s interesting – the battle was not about the result but about public appreciation and that one won surely German Vice Champions Timur & Nina. However the competition won “home couple” – Marius & Kristina.

The other interesting battle was between French and Russian couple and very surprisingly in 4 out of 5 dances Charles & Elena were placed 3rd and ended up with the bronze medal even if usually they are always getting placed behind Andrey & Vera.

1 Marius-Andrei Balan & Kristina Moshenska, GERMANY

2 Timur Imametdinov & Nina Bezzubova, GERMANY

3 Charles-Guillaume Schmitt & Elena Salikhova, FRANCE

4 Andrey Gusev & Vera Bondareva, RUSSIA

5 Andrea Silvestri & Martina Varadi, HUNGARY

6 Edgar Marcos Borjas & Alina Nowak, POLAND
